IB Chemistry SL HL PowerPoints PPTs
Topic 1 Stoichiometric relationships
The first section 1.1 of this PowerPoint will hopefully be a review of several years of science (specifically Chemistry) class that you would have participated in during middle school and early high school. Most of this is done in the IGCSE syllabus. The Stoichiometry page begins with the PPT videos that take you through these slides. If you are unsure about any of these concepts there are also extra 'CONCEPT' videos on the Stoichiometry page that go slower through different aspects, such as balancing, naming etc. Please also make use of the topic exam practice Qs as review.
Sections 1.2 and 1.3 consolidate and build up your Stoichiometry which will be needed for your experimental reports and intergration in the other units.
Topic 2 Atomic structure
Topic 3 Periodicity
Topic 4 Chemical bonding and structure
Topic 5 Energetics/thermochemistry
The foremost thing to grasp in this unit are the definitions. The definitions are often asked outright in paper 2, but more importantly they are needed to not only understand what the calculation questions are asking, but to answer those questions. The definitions such as what is Heat of Formation needs to be known so thatyou can work out if the formula is: products less reactants, or reactants less products.
